TI-Kenya is seeking a Programme Assistant in the Citizen Demand Programme with specific reference to Advocacy and Legal Advisory Centres for the Public Service Delivery Programme

TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL-KENYA is a non-profit organisation founded in 1999 and registered as a company limited by guarantee, with the aim of a transparent and corruption free Kenya for and good governance and social justice initiatives in Kenya.

TI-KENYA is part of the Transparency International group that is a non-partisan coalition of individuals with a shared vision of a corruption free world. TI-Kenya is an autonomous Chapter in the Transparency International movement, a global coalition against corruption, with which we share knowledge and exchange ideas for the greater good of Kenya.

The TI-Kenya network currently has two Advocacy and Legal Advice Centres (ALACs) and is expanding this presence. The ALACs provide legal advice and assistance to victims and witnesses of corruption and help citizens pursue corruption-related complaints. By using information gained from cases (either individual cases or common themes running through a variety of cases observed), ALACs are then able to advocate for systemic reform based on concrete evidence. By forging relationships with stakeholders, ALACs aim to create dialogue, informal feedback and working partnerships with government institutions charged with anti-corruption and translate citizens’ concerns on corruption into structural changes for better local and national governance.

Description:
  • Support TI-Kenya in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Advocacy and legal Advisory Centres (ALAC)
  • Providing ALAC with technical support to planning meetings, workshops and seminars including the preparation of meeting documents, agendas, reports;
  • Preparing, coordinating, participating in and reporting on field visits, meetings and workshops for ALAC;
  • Assist in the documentation of information based on the ALAC Website section on ALACs and maintenance of the ALAC data base
  • Contribute to the content development of the TI Intranet section on ALACs
  • Assist with the receipt, booking, recording calls for the clients for purposes of processing cases
  • Assist with the development of a participatory results and impact tracking system for TI ALAC initiative.
  • Assist in research, documentation, record-keeping, administrative and logistical tasks related to supporting the TI-ALACs globally
  • Conducting initial interviews and setting up appointments.
  • Assist with research, statistics & information management of ALAC operations
  • Assist with the analysis of complaints by sectors and clusters and the identification of 'soft points' in the system which allow corruption
  • Any other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

· A Bachelor of Laws degree and Diploma from the Kenya School of Law

Knowledge, skills and experience:

· Proven experience in community mobilisation

· Familiarity with advocacy and communications strategies and tools

· Experience with legal aid/or familiarity with work of legal and/or anti-corruption institutions an asset.

· Knowledge of, and/or previous participation in civil society advocacy for social and institutional change an asset.

· Result oriented and self motivated

· Experience in organising meetings/workshops/trainings.

· Web site management experience

· Detail-oriented, ability to multi-task and manage time well

· Team player and quick learner who focuses on high productivity and results

· Ability to work with tight deadlines and schedules

· Excellent Writing and Research skills

· Experience in community mobilisation

· Fluency in English and Swahili

· Demonstrated interest in anti-corruption sector

· Good conceptual skills

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
