The Association of African Women for Research and Development (AAWORD/AFARD) is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the position of the Gender and Economic Justice Program Manager for a fixed term contract. This position offers possibility of gaining experience working for a leading Africa women regional organization in a stimulating, multicultural and dynamic environment. This position will involve travel within Africa and other part of the world.
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Executive Secretary, the Program Officer on Gender and Economic Justice will be responsible in executing Economic justice related projects. Specific duties of the Program officer will include:
•Manage day to day operation of the program activities
•Assist the Executive Secretary in the preparation of continental research , training and fundraising/proposal development activities;
•In Consultation with the scientific committee, design economic justice related project research and organize regional advocacy activities to that effect;
•Help both AAWORD HQ and National groups to forge strategic partnership and alliances with like minded women’s organizations
•Work with national groups, management and resource persons in identifying economic justice issues needing national and international advocacy;
•Ensure national groups are the driving force of all project design and implementation in their countries
•Provide guidance in selection of think tanks at national level with economic analysis skills among others
•Facilitate the launching of the Forum of African young researchers and activists;
•Assist national groups in establishing the training program for young researchers;
•Facilitate national groups to design gender and economic justice interventions that have a bearing on women and men engaging in rural livelihood system in AAWORD intervention countries;
•Conduct supervision/evaluation visits in beneficiaries countries;
•Assist the executive secretary and the Finance officer in the preparation of narrative and financial project reports;
•Document success stories, best practices and lessons learnt and oversee quality implementation of the project activities;
•Produce articles on Economic justice for publication in the AAWORD quarterly bulletin;
•Carry out any other duty assigned by the Executive Secretary for the smooth functioning of AAWORD.
Qualifications:
•MA in economic sciences
•At least 3 year demonstrated experience in project management: conceptualisation, development, resource mobilisation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
•Experience and interest in gender and development and human rights issues in Africa;
•Demonstrated ability to work and communicate in English or French and fair knowledge of the other language;
•Knowledge of national and continental economic policies as well as documents and treaties such as the PRSP (Poverty Reduction Strategic Paper), WTO (World Trade Organisation) and EPAs (Economic Partnership Agreements);
•Experience in policy development and coordination of national and regional women’s networks/movements in Africa;
•Ability to work in a team;
•Demonstrated analytical , organisational and writing skills;
•Computer skills required.
